Following the Money behind Dubey's Mudslinging

Source: Pro-Dubey mailer.

Bob Dubey and his supporters have unleashed a barrage of mudslinging against Amir Omar using Dubey's advantage in fundraising, largely from sources outside the City of Richardson. Dubey might portray himself as a good old boy, but he's got big money backing him, including developer money, which is often the biggest money in local elections. Funny how that works. They are not holding back on mudslinging. Because we're already into early voting, it might be too late to properly sort out the truths from the half truths and lies.

The hypocrisy in this is that the attacks carry headlines like "Ethics and Transparency," but the authors of the attack ads don't reveal their names. One is a text message from "Larry with Right 4 Richardson." The other a mailer from "R2MFR, LLC." They force you to hunt down who is behind the attacks, if you can.

"R2MFR, LLC" at least can be tracked down. There's a franchise tax account with that name (Texas Secretary of State File Number 0805997484). R2MFR, LLC's registered agent is Manasseh Durkin. Where have we seen that name recently? It's in a blog post just this week — "Trust: Mayor's Race Inspires Charter Change" — where I said:

Manasseh Durkin is the "largest land holder in the CORE District", according to The Dallas Morning News. Here is the timeline:

  • 05/06/2023: Bob Dubey is elected Mayor of Richardson.
  • 05/09/2023: Three days later, Manasseh Durkin donates $465.20 to Bob Dubey's campaign.
  • 02/10/2025: City Council, with Bob Dubey voting yes, approves the construction of 279 apartments in downtown Richardson on land controlled by Manasseh Durkin.
Source: The Wheel.

To that timeline, we can now add one more item, even more damning:

  • 04/25/2025: Menasseh Durkin makes a donation in-kind to the Dubey campaign, mailing a flyer supporting Bob Dubey for mayor and attacking Amir Omar.

This looks bad, and I shouldn't have to explain why. It's exactly the kind of cozy relationship between a developer and an official of the City of Richardson that led me to suggest two charter changes to make this kind of exchange of favors illegal. That it's another mayor who is involved is just too much on the money. Dubey is reviving memories of 2013. He hopes the voters won't care.

Given that Dubey's 8-Day Campaign Finance Report shows he still has $26,000 on hand, expect a blizzard of dirty politics from the Dubey side in the eight days remaining in this campaign. It's déjà vu, and I don't mean that because Amir Omar is running for mayor again. It's because the bad guys are trying to win again using the same old playbook. What will it take to stop sleazy behavior at City Hall?

. As a candidate for Mayor of Richardson, I’m not here to play politics, I’m here to clean it up. This campaign is about one thing: C.U.R.E. – Clean Up Richardson Ethics. It’s time to restore integrity, transparency, and unity at City Hall.

But instead of honest debate, we’re seeing the same dirty tricks. Shadowy groups like “Right 4 Richardson” and “R2MFR, LLC” bankrolled by big money insiders tied to Bob Dubey’s political machine are flooding this election with anonymous attacks and baseless smears. They’ve already gone after Amir Omar with ugly, misleading hit jobs. I may be running against him, but this kind of mudslinging is disgraceful and wrong.

And let’s be real, it’s only a matter of time before they come after me too. That’s who they are. When you threaten their grip on power, they don’t debate they distort. They don’t engage they ambush. They hide behind fake LLCs, fake names, and insider commissions that scheme behind closed doors. Just look at the Charter Review Commission trying to rewrite the residency rules mid-election in a not so subtle effort to disqualify me. That’s not ethics, it’s desperation.

But I’m not for sale. I’m not afraid. And I’m not backing down.

I’m running a self-funded, independent campaign focused on real solutions, not cozy developer deals or backroom politics. With C.U.R.E., we can clean up the culture of corruption and raise the standard for leadership in Richardson.

Let’s take back our city together.

Who is funding the Richardson Renewal group? They sent out a very nice mailer and I can't find anything that shows where they are getting their money and their motivations.

I believe RRP is a 501(c)(4). Some types of nonprofit organizations may spend money on campaigns without disclosing who their donors are. The most common type of dark money group is the 501(c)(4) (often called social welfare organizations).

I hate dark money groups.
