"Sizzling doner meat,
Lamb and herbs in harmony,
Bodrum's bustling streets."

Today's photo-of-the-day is of doner kebab in Bodrum, Turkey. "Doner kebab is a dish of Turkish origin made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Seasoned meat stacked in the shape of an inverted cone is turned slowly on the rotisserie, next to a vertical cooking element. The operator uses a knife to slice thin shavings from the outer layer of the meat as it cooks."
After the jump, another Turkish savory treat.
We also ate dinner in a small neighborhood restaurant that features pide. Pide "is a savory dish of Turkish Black Sea origin consisting of a usually rounded, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients (such as meat, kasar, beyaz peynir), which is then baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven." Turkish pizza, if you will!
