Random Thoughts: You Could Have Seen This Day Coming 14 Years Ago

2024-09-06: You maybe could have seen this day coming fourteen years ago when his son was born and he named him "Colt."

2024-09-06: AP: "The delay, the latest bit of good legal fortune for Trump, means the presidential election will be decided without voters knowing if the Republican nominee is going to jail."
You'd think the voters deserve to know that.

2024-09-06: AP: "Merchan explained in a four-page decision that he was postponing the sentencing “to avoid any appearance — however unwarranted — that the proceeding has been affected by or seeks to affect the approaching presidential election in which the Defendant is a candidate.”"
Delaying sentencing itself gives an appearance of affecting the approaching presidential election, in Trump's favor.

2024-09-06: NBC: "Former Vice President Dick Cheney will vote for Harris, his daughter Liz Cheney says"
Two quick reactions:
1. Is he still alive?
2. Maybe he's trying to atone for his sins before he does die.

2024-09-06: NBC: "The younger Cheney, one of former President Donald Trump's most prominent conservative critics, also said she was supporting Democratic Rep. Colin Allred for Senate in Texas."
My home state. Colin Allred has been running as a moderate in Texas. Getting the Cheneys on board is a sign that it's paying dividends.

2024-09-13: I got called by a pollster. Got asked about all the big races on my Texas ballot. My favorite was the question about "Colin Alfred." I said "Allred." They said, "Oh is that how you pronounce it? Thanks." The candidate who got the most questions was Angie Chen Button. There was a long question about abortion, immigration, schools, the economy and whether Button's positions make me more or less likely to vote for her. Was it her poll? Dunno.

2024-09-13: I don't know which is funnier, people who get excited by the arrival of pumpkin spice in Fall, or people who get irritated by it.

2024-09-13: I finally managed to watch the debate. A common Republican complaint was that Trump was outnumbered 3-to-1. I haven't counted the minutes, but it seemed to me Trump was given more speaking time overall and was allowed the final word on many more topics. If that's 3-on-1, the three were on Trump's side.

2024-09-14: But maybe Republicans meant the debate was 3-on-0, because Trump wasn't doing himself any favors.

2024-09-18: "The State Department announced Wednesday that Americans can now renew their adult passports online."
Meanwhile, in Texas, we still can't register to vote online.

2024-09-20: @GottaLaff, if Dems didn't anticipate Nebraska changing the rules at the last minute, and it was an obvious late game move for months, Dems simply don't know how to play this game.

2024-09-20: @GottaLaff I read months ago that Maine Dems warned Nebraska not to try it because Maine would just change their own law, canceling Nebraska's trick. So Nebraska just put their dirty trick in their back pocket until Maine was past its own deadline for such a change. Maine Dems should have at least changed their deadline. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

2024-09-26: How each member of the House voted on the government funding deal.
Spoiler: Richardson's Beth van Duyne voted to shut down the government. Richardson's Colin Allred voted to keep the government open.

Speaking of a boy named "Colt"...

My girlfriend managed an employee who was named "Colt". She told me that he came to her to let her know that he was transitioning to female.

Thinking of Jenner, I asked her if the employee was going to change their name to "Filly". True story.
