The Worst Places to Eat in Richardson Last Month

Restaurant Scores

The City of Richardson is rightly regarded as having some of the best, most diverse, dining options in north Texas ("Eat & Drink"). Feeling a bit like "Opposite Man," I thought I'd offer a list of the ten worst places to eat in Richardson this month. It's based on the City of Richardson's Health Department Restaurant Scores for last month. That is, each month features a different list.

Note that being on this list doesn't necessarily make a restaurant an objectively bad place to eat. These restaurants are just relatively worse compared to other restaurants inspected during the same month and who received higher scores from the Health Department inspectors.

Here is this month's list of the ten lowest ranked restaurants.

According to the Health Department: "Scores are based on a scale of zero to 100. A score of 90 to 100 is excellent; 80 to 89 is good; 70 to 79 is acceptable; and 60 to 69 is marginal. A score below 60 may be grounds for the closing of an establishment or other enforcement action."

What prompted this post was learning last week that Dog Haus in Richardson's Restaurant Park was closed. A notice on the door says it's a landlord lockout for failure to pay rent. Coincidentally, and I have no evidence that the closure was related, Dog Haus is on my list.

I first started commenting on restaurant scores way back in 2010. I wrote then, "Diners have to search out inspection scores buried in the city's website, if they are even aware that the scores exist at all. I'd like to see restaurants prominently display their most recent inspection score where patrons can see it before walking in the door." The Wheel's motto is "Not Being Listened to Since 2006." Health inspection scores are still not required to be posted in the windows of restaurants. That tells me that my streak of not being listened to is still alive and well. I just hope diners at some of these restaurants are as well.

Serve up questionable food.
Dine there if you dare."
