Random Thoughts: Eclipse Conspiracy Theories

Mastodon

2024-04-06: I don't recall any conspiracy theories about the eclipse circulating on social media. Am I missing them?

2024-04-09: Great view of the eclipse in McKinney. Diamond ring, 3 minutes of totality, then another diamond ring. Awesome.

2024-04-09: I always tell people that partial eclipses are interesting, but just can't compare to a total eclipse. A 99% partial eclipse sounds good, but totality is something else entirely. We would have been chasing the 2017 eclipse if we didn't know that the 2024 eclipse was coming right to us.

2024-04-09: The City of Richardson's public information channel "Richardson Today" reports about yesterday's eclipse in Richardson: "Totality began at 12:23 p.m. and lasted until about 3:02 p.m., but it was the moments that started at 1:40 p.m. that brought many people together."
Um...no. Partial eclipse began at 12:23 pm. Totality didn't begin until 1:40 pm. When a basic detail like this is wrong, can you trust anything else in the article?

2024-04-14: Hamas made a mistake on Oct 7, turning Israel into the victim.
Israel made a mistake responding with total war on Gaza, which restored sympathy to Palestinians.
Iran made a mistake retaliating against Israel's attack on its consulate in Syria by launching drones and missiles against Israel, restoring sympathy to Israel.
Is this what forever war looks like?

2024-04-14: Mickey Mantle, on bring struck out by Sandy Koufax: "How the fuck is anybody supposed to hit that shit?"

2024-04-18: From The Dallas Morning News's headline writer comes today's lesson in irony: "Dallas’ closed permitting office building had fire code violations."

2024-04-26: In January, 2021, the national average gas price was $2.41. Last month, it was $2.55. Thanks, Joe.
