Today's bestest good news: Today I Learned that so-called peak carbon emissions may be at hand, thanks to the growth of solar and wind power.
According to WIRED magazine, "The world is already steadily decarbonizing its electricity. Solar and wind are growing quickly, and in 2024 these two sources of renewable energy could outstrip the increase in electricity demand. If this happens, coal- and gas-burning will go down, and so will emissions."
This doesn't mean the problem is solved. With the carbon we already added to the atmosphere, global temperatures could go on rising for decades. And carbon emissions for electricity generation is only part of the problem. Peak emissions from automobiles is another matter. But the good news is that we know how to do it. We just need the will to keep on keeping on.
