Oscar Snubs

Source: DALL-E

The 2024 Oscar nominations, as always, snub some worthy movies. This year, however, only one movie that received an "A" grade from The Wheel didn't make the Oscar Best Picture list. More on that later.

Let's start with a look at the other categories. Most notably, Best Director. Greta Gerwig, director of Barbie, was left off of the Best Director list. How is that possible? Barbie not only gathered eight nominations, it was also the highest grossing film of 2023. You don't think the director must have had a lot to do with Barbie's success? The Academy voters apparently didn't. Likewise, Margot Robbie was snubbed in the Best Actress category, despite representing the title character and winning such wide acclaim from critics and ticket buyers that an Oscar nod was widely assumed.

This tale of overcoming poverty, racism, sexual discrimination, and family abuse needs retelling to each generation. For me, the musical numbers were the most uplifting; the discordant violence was the hardest to watch. A-
