During the recent Richardson ISD school board election, I wrote a lot of blog posts (a lot) about the incendiary and false charges being leveled by extreme right-wing candidates against public education. But I have to say, nothing they wrote compares to this outrageous claim in a mailer by Angie Chen Button.
I shouldn't have to say this, but...
Public schools are not conducting "radical indoctrination."
Public schools are not "dividing our children based on the color of their skin."
Public schools are not run by Chinese Communists.
"The Communists used these same divisive tactics in China's cultural revolution which turned neighbor on neighbor and cost 30 million lives."
Frankly, this is disgusting politicking by Angie Chen Button. Public schools are not killing people. Angie Chen Button's mailer is headlined, "No Propaganda in Schools." The only propaganda going on here is in Angie Chen Button's mailer itself. Angie Chen Button should be ashamed.
Angie Chen Button's divisive mailer is a dealbreaker. The only thing Angie Chen Button got right in her mailer is saying, "We need to bring people together, not divide them." Unfortunately, accusing your opponents of sharing beliefs that resulted in the killing of 30 million people is not going to unify our community. For any hope of that, that leaves Elva Curl.
Vote for Elva Curl.
