Today's photo-of-the-day is of the eternal flame at the tomb of the unknown soldier just outside the Kremlin wall in Moscow, Russia.
Bonus photo after the jump.
Along the wall are monuments to the twelve "Hero Cities," recognized for outstanding heroism during the Great Patriotic War (World War II). The monument shown recognizes Stalingrad. The German surrender there on February 2, 1943 marked the turning-point of the war in Europe, 16 months before D-Day in the west.
