"Best Use of Negative/Contrast" - The Envelope Please

Remember the infamous "Voters Guide" in the 2009 Richardson City Council election, a product of the Richardson Coalition PAC and the political consulting firm of Murphy Turner Associates? Murphy Turner is the proud winner of the 2009 "Pollie Award" for "Best Use of Negative/Contrast"? (I don't know which is more surprising, that such an award exists, or that a firm would be proud to win it.)

After the jump, Murphy Turner Associates' involvement with yet another "Voters Guide," this one in Tarrant County.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the new mailer says its aim is to help voters make a "non-biased decision on whom to support." Critics say the mailer misleads voters about who is making the endorsements, the Arlington Police Association PAC. Some endorsed candidates say they were asked to donate to the PAC making the endorsements. One critic notes that some prominently endorsed candidates happen to be clients of Murphy Turner. The PAC ran criminal background checks on candidates. One endorsed candidate admits to being uncomfortable with the harsh comments made about candidates not endorsed.

It looks like Turner Murphy may be on track for another award-winning year in the "negative/contrast" category.

P.S. Besides Richardson Coalition PAC, another client of Turner Murphy Associates is Rep. Angie Chen Button (Texas House District 112), who endorses Turner Murphy because "these guys are winners". There's no word on whether Chen Button plans to again use Turner Murphy's award-winning "negative/contrast" campaign style in her re-election campaign in 2010.
