Wildcat-Ram Stadium, or Ram-Wildcat?

The Richardson ISD has four high schools, but only two football stadiums, so sharing is a must. The Lake Highlands Wildcats and the Berkner Rams share the stadium at Lake Highlands High School, officially known as Wildcat-Ram Stadium (map), although Berkner Ram fans unofficially call it Ram-Wildcat Stadium. When the stadium press box was recently renovated, the school district diplomatically installed a circular sign with "Wildcat Ram" on the top and "Ram Wildcat" on the bottom. The outcome of the annual football game between the two schools determines which name gets unofficial precedence in the stadium name for the next year.

For many years, Lake Highlands held the advantage, but in 2004, Berkner finally beat their stadium-sharing rival. After the game, when the football team gathered in front of the marching band in the visitors' stands for the playing of the school alma mater and fight song, the Mighty Ram Band, in unison, greeted the players with a rousing "Welcome to Ram-Wildcat Stadium." The players, knowing the significance, broke out in big smiles and high fives.

This Friday, the two schools renew their rivalry. The Lake Highlands Wildcats have regained the advantage, winning for the last three years. This year's contest is a toss-up. Berkner is ranked #10 in the DFW area by The Dallas Morning News. Lake Highlands is ranked #13. These are two good teams, both likely playoff-bound. Will the Berkner Rams have what it takes to reclaim the pre-eminent position in the shared stadium's name? Find out Friday night. Be there.
